aquela coincidência boa, o momento em que se alinham as estrelas e uma coisa feliz acontece.

estávamos de dedo no botão de ‘comprar viagens’ para ir até berlim de comboio quando eu recebi o e-mail da erin, a perguntar-me se tinha aquela segunda-feira de fevereiro livre para fotografar o elopement dela e do marido no porto. parámos e pensámos: se marcássemos as datas que tínhamos em mente, estaríamos na alemanha nessa altura. só havia uma possibilidade: se fosse um casamento curto, entrar no comboio nessa mesma noite, para não perdermos a totalidade da berlinale. arriscámos, e não podíamos ter escolhido melhor forma de passar o nosso último dia no porto pré-covid.

há qualquer coisa de especial neste dia, na inocência de quem via um porto com 25 graus em fevereiro, que adivinhava uma primavera boa e quente, o fim dos meses e meses de chuva. Alinhou-se tudo, até as pessoas que viram e aplaudiram enquanto a Carly, celebrante-maravilha da Your European Wedding Celebrant, unia o casal entre risos e olhos cheios de lágrimas. E comemorámos ali aquela estória doce e engraçada, com a bebé a passar de braços em braços e os pais a celebrar o seu amor.

that happy coincidence, the moment when the stars align and joyous moments ensue.

we had our finger on the ‘buy’ button, ready to book our train trips to berlin, when I got erin’s e-mail. she asked if I’d be available to photograph her and Dan’s elopement, accompanied by their lovely baby, on a monday in late february. we looked at each other and realized that if we went ahead with booking the trip as we had planned, we’d be in germany by then, but there was one option: if it was a short wedding, we could get on the train that very night and avoid missing the berlinale (one of our main reasons to go) in its entirety. we took that risk, and to say it paid off doesn’t cover it. we got to spend our last day in a pre-covid porto doing what we love the most, with incredible people.

there’s something special about this day, about the innocence of having 25 degrees in february in porto, of looking ahead and envisioning a warm, sunny spring after the months and months of rain. everything aligned — even the hordes of people who watched as Carly gave one of her moving speeches and helped celebrate the love of these two wonderful people. amongst giggles and happy tears, we were all part of a sublime and special moment.
