Na sexta-feira passada, dia 7 de Outubro, abri pela primeira vez uma exposição a solo na minha cidade! Alguns dos meus auto-retratos estão expostos entre 7 e 30 de Outubro na MENDO Galeria, na Foz, e eu tive o prazer de receber aqueles que quiseram estar presentes na noite de abertura!
Não foi um processo fácil — exposições dificilmente são, a não ser que se tenha uma série de fotos definida, como eu tinha tido na minha experiência anterior — mas é todo um trabalho que vale a pena. Entre debates sobre quais peças deveriam ser expostas (o emocional de quem as fez, versus o racional de quem as vê) e a trabalheira monumental que o Armindo Alves (curador) e a sua equipa tiveram com impressões, verificações, redes sociais, etc — foi um desafio, daqueles que nos deixam todos contentes quando vemos os resultados a florescer.
Então, sem mais demoras, ficam as fotografias da abertura. Todas elas foram tiradas pela Joana Cardoso, pela Melanie Beier e pela minha irmã de nove anos, a Gabriela, que já dá uns toques com a minha máquina! Muito obrigada às meninas pelas fotos, e obrigada ao Armindo e à equipa da MENDO pela confiança e dedicação à exposição!
(E por último, um enorme obrigada a todos aqueles que contribuíram para que eu pudesse fazer auto-retrato durante tanto tempo. Desde a minha família, à Melanie (e aos pais e avós dela que vieram da Alemanha e viram a abertura!), aos meus amigos (online e offline) e a todas as pessoas que foram incentivando, comentando e interagindo comigo e que permitiram que eu ganhasse gosto em partilhar estas imagens — vocês são os maiores!)
Last friday, on October 7, I had the pleasure of receiving guests at my first solo exhibit in my hometown, Porto! Some of my self-portraits will be shown between the 7th and 30th of October at MENDO Galeria, at Foz!
It wasn't an easy process — no exhibition ever is, unless you start off with a set series of photos, which had been my previous experience — but it's really, truly worth it. From debates on which of my photos to publish (the ever lasting challenge between the emotional side of who makes it and the rational side of who sees it), and the incredible amount of logistics Armindo Alves (the curator) and his team had to handle, since I don't currently live in Porto — it was a challenge. But it was the best kind of challenge — the kind that makes your heart sing when it's ready and you get to see it flourish.
So here are the photos from the opening night! They were taken by Joana Cardoso, Melanie Beier and my nine year old sister, Gabriela, who is already messing around with my equipment! Thanks to the girls for the photos, and thanks again to Armindo and to the MENDO team for the kindness, the confidence they instilled in me and the dedication to the exhibit!
(Last but not least, I'd like to leave an enormous thank you note to everyone who made it possible for me to do self-portraiture and to love it so much. From my amazing family, to my Melanie (and her parents and grandparents who were in Portugal and got to see the opening of the exhibit!), to my friends (offline and on) and to everyone who has interacted, commented and pushed me forward these past few years — you guys are AWESOME!)
